Non-shaggy

I think my last haircut was sometime before the Fort Worth convention, so the barber took one look at me, indicated my eyebrow(s) and said, "I move these up to the top, yes?" and I grinned.

I pretty much go in for a cut and polish nowadays, and it's a pleasure to get a good short cut. I reckon if I need a comb, it's too long, but I'm lazy enough that I let it go too long and feel uncomfortable for a few weeks before I finally drag myself in. I've had the same barber for nearly twenty years now, barring a few years in Melbourne and Sydney. A couple of Greek chaps with a string of regulars and a waiting bench in the corner stocked with the modern-day successors of Australiasian Post. They know what sort of haircut I like and they know I'm into book sales. Good old-fashioned barbers. None of these fancy modern unisex hair salons favored by the rest of the family.

Another boost to the Frequent Flyer miles. I'm getting very familiar with the conditions and the special offers and I take up as many as I can get. This latest one is 3 000 points for joining an on-line share trading scheme. It has the advantage of being a good deal cheaper in brokerage than the one I use, and they give me FF points!

I've joined the BCUK mailing list, and I'm pretty well committed to attending their convention as well. Have to scrape up some money for that. Looks like it will be a number-crunching money weekend as I put my accounts in order for my tax return. I'll be buried in bank statements trying to work out what went where. I hate this stuff.

About two thirds of the way through HP. The rest of the family is finished and are busy biting their tongues to stop giving away too much. I'm enjoying it. TV special last night featured JKR reading her book at midnight - she picked a great chapter to read from - and answering questions from a young Australian girl who had won some sort of official contest to ask questions. Very interesting, but the one I liked best was on writing, and Rowling answered that she thought if you had characters you cared about with an interesting plot, you couldn't go too far wrong.

Cool!

I don't like unisex places either. I want my hairdresser to be all girlie. Although I haven't had a haircut since 1997. "Watch this space". :: scheme ::

Ah yes, reminds me it's time to go back to my regularly scheduled mail at BXUK. It's very heavy volume, but fun.

Bought Harry last night. Wasn't sure if the only decent bookshop in Cairo would stock it yet, but they do. A huge tower of HPs right at the entrance... So I have to get on with it now and finished 'The Hobbit' now.

Not a lot of unisex hairdressers in Cairo! In international hotels and the odd expat hairdresser doing it at home, but that's it. Otherwise strictly separated by sex, as women need to take their hijab off for a cut and that just won't do with men around.....
