Easy Rider

skyringI'm feeling very priivileged to be reading an early version of Whytraven's epic of survival on desert highways. I'm supposed to be proofreading it, but the truth is that I'm being swept up in the adventure of a lifetime. I'm admiring the courage needed to set out on such a trip too. It's one thing to be brave as a lion when you are eight feet long, solid muscle and tipped with claws and fangs, but when you are one small lady on a big bike in the middle of nowhere, well, that's real courage.
There's a gentle, insightful humour to the story that's pure Raven, and I'm enjoying it. I'm not a biker, but this is great fun, and I don't feel any need to skip ahead to the interesting bits about BookCrossing. Well, not too much need!
You can feel the wind whipping past, the cold of a lonely campsite, the joy of a hot shower. This is great travel writing, even in its raw state.
Thanks, everyone for the kind but puzzled words about my own bit of writing in the previous friends-only journal. It's a bit odd, but trust me, I know where I'm going with this.
Bit of an emergency at BookCrossing.com as the site began acting up and the support emails came flooding in. Luckily it was fixed before too many people noticed.
Dropped off the books at Paul Magee's lecture, the one I should have dropped them off last week. There's some good ones there, and I'm hoping for a few members.
And finally, it's a great day today. Clear and crisp and blue for the second day of winter. Down to minus five overnight, but a top of sixteen forecast. I'll go and finish my run this arvo while I think about the next chapter.

Whytraven's travel story is excellent - and it's got ME in it! Only a couple of short chapters about the Texas convention, but I brought a smile or two to her lips. I was so pleased to meet her for the very first time and I was so impressed with her courage that I told her she was my hero, which is the honest truth.
Just the thought of driving in America scares me silly, let alone getting on a great big motorbike and riding alone across deserts and mountains.
