Wasting time
May. 20th, 2005 01:03 pmI'm spending far too much time in the small hours of the morning in mucking about on Wikipedia. Constitutional theory and practice has long been a passion of mine and sometimes I wonder why I spend time debating complex questions with people who have their heads up their bum. But it's a lot of fun.
Kerri gets back sometime soon. I suppose it's appalling that I don't know precisely, but I don't have her itinerary and she said she'd let me know. I await a phone call from the airport to be picked up, as she's probably in the air now.
I took Claude the cat into the vet yesterday as his paw shows no sign of healing. The vet wants to do an x-ray and see if he can drain the wound. Possibly there is a broken bone, but I think it's just that Claude hasn't put enough pressure on his sore paw to drain the infection. That's happening now, and I'll get a phone call to pick him up and pay the bill later today.

Date: 2005-05-20 06:17 am (UTC)The way that the theory is put into practice fascinates me. This is not always straightforward. For example the Australian Constitution makes no reference to the Prime Minister, a person of some importance.
The Governor-General was given extensive powers in his own right at Federation and the role of the Queen has steadily eroded, to the point where she is only a nominal head of state.
This was a point of some importance during the recent republican referendum, during which I was both a political journalist and a political footsoldier. I find it interesting because it's stuff that very few people know much about and there is often a lively debate.
I also get to point out to people they have their head up their bum which is always fun.
