Let's see. Finished my Friday shift at a bit after four. It was busy, I could have gone longer, I had a target to aim for, but I'd already had two naps and I was pretty tired. So I gave up and came home.
Saturday was a lovely lazy morning of reading papers, doing laundry and generally mucking about. Had a nap in the afternoon and then off to King O'Malley's for our monthly BookCrossing meet. So very pleasant to meet others of similar bent. Elddau1 produced little gifties and bonbons, with the mandatory paper crowns and lame-oh jokes.
And I had two schooners of light beer, which I needed to get rid of about two hours in. On the way back I heard a nickname I hadn't heard in a long while, and there was an old mate from my University Regiment days. I see him every now and again. We chatted, he introduced me to his fiancee, all of 23 years old by the look of her, we confirmed our suspicions about the gender preference of a mutual friend, and I finally managed to make my goodbyes and dash off to buy groceries for our anniversary dinner, getting home just in time to start cooking.
Trout and lentils and salad, with a semillon sav blanc to help it along. The trout was perfectly cooked while Kerri and I shared a cider out on the balcony and we sat down with DD to polish off the wine. So I was reasonably well poached that evening!
Observant readers will notice that our anniversary dinner was home cooked. Kerri and I decided to save a bit of money and put it towards buying a new GPS unit. Our existing one is almost unusable because it's not really a GPS but a personal organiser thingie, the stylus has long been lost (by me) and it constantly resets because the power plug was once brutally ript out instead of being gently squeezed and unplugged (not by me).
First stop on Monday after obligatory Sunday papers and moka pot coffee was the Bus Depot Markts to buy some minor jewellery as gifts for a couple of neices. Whilst browsing, I noticed a chap selling second-hand books. They were well tailored to the market attendees - literate, philosophical, artistic sorts of books. I had a quick shufti and then approached the stallholder. "Long shot, but Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin?"
Instead of shaking his head no, he extended an arm and plucked the book from where it had been lying, face-up, on the top of a tray of novels. If I'd had eyes in my head I would have seen it for myself!
I've been wanting to read this book for some time - it's a serial novel, it's about San Francisco, it has scenes set in my favorite supermarkt, the Marina Safeway, and now I have it - expect me not to surface for a bit!
Next stop was Bing Lee for new Navman - with a reasonably sized screen - and clothes drier to replace the cantankerous old brute we have. It only operates by opening and closing the door, it has no timer or other controls, and the cat has previously expressed her emotions in it when disappointed by a nearby but full litter tray. Oh yeah, and the lint filter pops out randomly, spraying lint over the clean dry clothes.
So that's all been installed and tested and I'm off to explore San Francisco. Goodnight!
