Gold Coast
Jun. 17th, 2009 11:13 amKerri and I are having a short break on the Gold Coast. Evening flight, so I couldn't work a shift. Kerri took the day off work as well. Good thing too, because the builders arrived about eight and got me out of bed. She was able to discuss the work with them, which she loves and I don't.
Progress was made during the day - they installed the new wooden bench top and basin. Just a few tiles and the shower screen to go now. Might even be finished when we get home.
I got a bit of kip on the day-and-night in the spare room, but not high quality sleep. Didn't get as much done as I'd like. Still got a couple of packages to make up and post off.
Went out with Kerri for brunch at the local, which was nice. She had banana bread and I had an omellette, which doubled as lunch.
DS was home when it was time to go to the airport, so I texted my day driver to say that we wouldn't need him, and he could carry some real full fare paying customers, but too late, he was on the way with a story of woe and breakdowns. It's been a pretty rough old ride in the cab for weeks now. Our silver limo is still off the road and we're sharing a regular cab, which is pretty bloody irregular.
Anyway, it all just confirms my view that I have a wonderful co-driver. He's always cheerful, courteous, efficient, entertaining, practical. The perfect cabbie.
We got an hour in the Business Lounge before our flight. Glass or two of champagne and some light meal. Better and more than you get in the regular Qantas Club, but that's not saying a real lot. As ever, the best tucker was the soup.
Flight up was nice. Seats towards the back of the bus on a full flight. I'd allocated myself a window and Kerri an aisle, hoping that we'd get the middle seat for free, but no, there was a young chap there. He took the aisle so we could sit together. He was on his way, in suit and tie, to a Pink concert.
Vegetarian lasagna was served. At least it was a meal, rather than a muffin. No hot drinks.
Great view of the Gold Coast and Brisbane's SE suburbs as we came in. Went right over Griffith Uni and Mount Gravatt.
Just carryon, so we were straight out and onto the Avis rental place. Our medium sedan was upgraded to a Falcon XR6, which was nice. Same car I drove in New Zealand, and I like it a lot.
Straight over the Gateway Bridge(s), down the motorway, lovely quick run.
Had a cuppa and went to bed early.
