Kerri's work provides an allowance for stuff like conferences, professional memberships, and computers.

The Libretto we bought a couple of years back is light and powerful, but the keyboard and screen are really a bit small for regular sustained use. So it has been time to replace it for a while.

We went looking for a new laptop today. Just as a joke, I stopped at the Macbook Air and began playing with it. I knew Kerri was concerned about compatibility with existing systems and wasn't keen on a Mac, but my previous quick looks had impressed me with its elegance and ease of use.

It took about a minute for Kerri to like it enough to ask serious questions. The sales assistant was able to give good answers, and long story short, we bought it. MacBookAir, exsternal drive, office:mac.

I was pleased but not surprised at the ease with which we set it up. More later.

Will look forward to hearing more about this! Am pretty sure this will be my next move too. People tell me it is much better for working with photos, something I am intending to do more of.

Thank'ee!

It's an impressive bit of kit. I stood my Compaq beside it, and even though I've got quite a small laptop and the MacAir's screen is bigger in both dimensions, the Mac has less height at the same screen angle.

Kerri won't use all the software supplied with it - what are we supposed to do with GarageBand? - but it looks like it will serve her needs admirably.

The question in my mind is whether I should make the switch. I don't have a pressing need for a new machine and I've got lots of things to spend my money on, not least being paying off our recent holiday. However, I wouldn't have to buy an external drive, and the office:mac software allows another two installations.

It would be nice to get back to Apple and great design. I might do some more research.

Of course the ease of compatibility between your wonderful iPhone and a Mac isn't of much interest to you. As for the GarageBand, I guess you could record podcast of your adventures from anywhere in the taxi to anywhere in the world as you hop from city to city meeting Bookcrosser after Bookcrosser. But wouldn't that just be silly?

I'm one of those rare happy Windows users myself... but this sounds like a good choice. Well done, and enjoy!
