The Atlantic

Pretty much the last time I had anything to do with this ocean was when I dipped a toe into it at Folly Beach with BookCzuk, back in 2006.

We passed through the Pillars of Hercules at sunset last night. An amazing amount of ships of all sizes. Gibraltar to starboard, some Moroccan mountains to port, hey diddle diddle, strait through the middle, following the sun's golden path.

Barcelona was another place to come back to. I want to return in a hundred years when they finish the cathedral.

Marvellous place. I'm sipping coffee out of my souvenir Gaudi mug even as I write these words.

Winding down and still tens of thousands of words to write to complete my journal for the cruise. A lifetime project.

Will be disembarking on Friday. Hopefully better internet access in our Portsmouth hotel.

I missed the Pillars of H in January; the weather was too foul. We couldn't dock in Gibraltar either. Hope Biscay is calm for you, though in a big ship it shouldn't matter anyway.

Staying in Portsmouth! Hope you get a chance to visit HMS Victory. It's a thing of beauty and without it Britannia would never have ruled the wave and sent people to Australia.

Barca is something else isn't it. A whole world of its own. Distinct. Individual. It pulls you in, enthralls and won't let you go until you make a promise to return. When you do, you will find there is even more than you dreamed. La Sagrada Familia is, even within that context, another world within a world, no? Breathtaking. Fascinating. I am hoping it will be finished in my lifetime!
