Well, the make-long-blog-entries bit isn't going so well, I'm living my life faster than I can write about it.

Here's the executive summary.

Day 1. Saturday. We get on plane(s) and fly to Hong Kong.

Day 2. Sunday. We get on train and cross the border to Shenzhen. We get ripped off in several ways, but that's okay. It's a fun day.

Day 3. Monday. We rip off a taxi driver. Take tour around island, go on sampan ride, awesome bus ride up Victoria Peak where sky is murky. Eat offal for dinner.

Day 4. Tuesday. Kerri and DD return to Shenzhen. I leave DS to vegetate with cable TV to see our ship come in. Which it does. I buy software unlocked iPhone. Girls return from Communist China laden with shopping success. Hillary's speech is viewed in public with deep interest. Nobody here will vote for her. Hillary dolls sold on street corners at huge prices for people to take home and destroy in inventive ways.

Day 5. Wednesday. Today. In half an hour we'll take offspring to airport train, wave goodbye, then run giggling through Hong Kong to ship, where we will board and harass the steward for real coffee with real milk.

Why do you want an iPhone? seriously. I have one and I'm not overly impressed. For the price tag, had I known about EEpc's, I would have bought one of those and stuck with a better phone.

So depending on the reasons you want one, you may be better off with something else.

interesting you say that.

I dislike my Ipod. lots of promise with little substance and damn hard to use despite all the hype

Thanks for comment

iPod Touch is easy to use. For me, at any rate. I resisted having an iPod in the ca for a long time, but the Touch has big buttons that I can read and use while driving. iPhone has same interface.

Two reasons. First, my old phone had cracked screen, which made using it difficult, as I could only see maybe 40% in fragments. Cost of replacing screen was more than new model of same phone, so I needed new phone anyway.

Second, I could transfer all the media from my iPod to my iPhone - it's a 16GB model - and have one fewer electronic device to carry around and look after. Plus I gave my old iPod Touch to my son, and bought new one for daughter.

Third, I LOVE the iPod Touch interface, with the pinching and the gestures and the Apple elegance.

hee, I knew why YOU wanted one. It'll be perfect for you.

I was curious as to why nuke wanted one. Because of the reasons I wanted one, it doesn't do what I want as well as an EEPC probably could and the phone service is awful here.

Can I mail you some money??? I never go tto the post office to send you the shirts, but I will try to post one to the lady you referred me to.

Glad you are having a great time! I look forwards to your pictures.

oh yeah you should tell Marti about the Hillary dolls.

And very droll about nobody there voting for her.

I am starting to understand how your mind works

That's a worry. The only other person who understands me so well is my daughter, who seems to have inherited same sense of humour.

well the big hint was the "mist" that we have discussed. It was *SO* clever that I wondered if it was deliberate.

Sorry to insult you.

won't do it again...

well that said I am sure to insult you but won't underestimate you

see you soonish

Noooooooo!!!!! If an expert traveller like you can't keep up with blogging while you flit around the world, what hope have I got?

But having so much fun you don't have time to write about it is always a good thing :-)

I'll catch up onboard. Having one room inhibits me a bit, as I don't like turning on even dimly glowing lights, making noise etc to write at night. On ship I'll have more time, and at three in the morning I can presumably take laptop and go somewhere quiet.

But yeah, my advice is to prewrite blog entries to save time.

prewrite???

OMG then you would have even less credibility

tee hee

and I just said I wouldn't insult you again. naughty newk

hey what net access do they have on ship?

Funny you should mention this. We've just received word that our packages from Shenzhen have arrived, so we'll check out of this hotel and go over to the ship, where internet will be expensive satellite.

Yeah, some typos or word switches are deliberate. Some are accidental. Most get mist.

Can I have a Hillary doll to destroy in inventive ways?

I love living vicariously through you, so I'll take whatever posts you manage to drop in for us!

Times have clearly changed in Shenzhen. When I was there 15 years ago they were still building it. It takes the Chinese roughly 2 years to build a city of 2 million people. At that time they were busy on a 50km highway that was going to take them all of 10 months to complete.

What's more I couldn't persuade them to take my money. Somehow the idea of selling things to tourists hadn't yet caught on!
