iPod Blues

I bought an iPod Touch a few weeks back. It is sooooo coooool. Since then they dropped the price and upgraded the software and added new programs. I dutifully downloaded the upgrade and bought the new progs. GoogleMaps on my iPod? Yeah, I've got it. Cool. The weather in Ottawa? Cool. Freezing. Email? Yeah, I can read my GMail. That's cool. And a notes feature. Sooo cool! It's a joy to write with, it not only recognises misspellings, but works out jumbles of letters from hitting wrong keys and translates them. And then I can email the result to myself.

I'm currently writing text for my travel journal. Combining blog posts, Moleskine entries and my happy memories, I'm typing them up, printing them out and pasting them in my Circa, along with ticket stubs, inflight menus and all the other little bits of paper you accumulate in travelling.

So I sit on a rank and relive my travels, typoing away in the dark. For when I get home, I work on my journal. Passengers are a welcome interruption. They are company and money for fresh travels.

Sat on the casino rank for about an hour last night. Finally decided that nothing was happening and I might as well pack it in and head home. Just as I reach for the indicator, out comes a chap in a suit, hops in and says, "Nice one for you, Driver, Amaroo."

Amaroo is a nice long fare indeed, and it's only a few kilometres from where I have to drop the cab off. And we had a good long chat all the way home, keeping each other awake.

Looks like the summer slump is over. Canberra's coming alive.

Home, sleep, play with the iPod.

Downloaded "My Son the Nut", Allan Sherman's classic album full of earworms. Synced it up and checked the free space. Cripes, almost full. Where did those 16 gig go?

Email from Apple. New for Valentine's Day. A 32 Gig Touch.

Sounds like things are going along well. I must admit I've been having a lot of fun with my own journals lately. It's nice to hear that you're fitting in your own kind of creativity.

You know, you perhaps might want to consider writing another travel book for NaNo this year.

Aaaaaarrrrr5ggggghhhh!!!! NoNoNoNo!

Taxidriving and high speed novelling don't work well together. In theory, seventeen hundred words a day isn't much. In practice, it doesn't happen. I've tried twice now.

But I can write pedestrian descriptions of my travels for my journal. I think of it as a one-off book.

Well, fair call. Taxidriving is indeed a lifestyle. And I have trouble keeping up with NaNo without that as well.

And isn't pedestrian what travelling is all about? All that walking around... ;P

Well, I enjoy your writing, anyway. If you were going to write another travel book, I'd certainly sign up.

I feel your pain. I bought my 16 Gig Touch at the end of November, so I've had it for a bit and the upgrades aren't *quite* so painful, but it does make me wish... Just remember that you have had the joy of playing with it for this long, and if you keep waiting for the upgrade you never actually get anything.

And now you have me off to search out Allan Sherman. I don't even have the music yet and already I'm humming!

I'm sure that the 2009 iPod range is absolutely stunning.

But for now, I delight in my joytoy.

I must search out your entries...
