Just got home after a great holiday and convention, and I've got full internet access again! Woo-hoo!

Now, to go out for dinner...

More later.

Thanks again to you and K for helping me get to the airport and also for sharing your Qroom entry!
I swapped seats with a young guy (as I'd been placed between 2 friends, their friend should have been in 19C and had vanished with their bag and boarding passes which is why my plane was delayed, the airport found their friend- though the 3 booked tickets together etc, one of them was on a different flight! Same seat, different plane!)
Anyway I had a window seat and took a photo, will upload later for your amusement!

Very glad you got a window seat! Of all my flights since 2003 when we did the second honeymoon trip to New Zealand, I've always managed to wangle a window seat except for once. And that time they bumped me up to first class so I didn't mind too much spoiling myt record.

I love having lounge access. Not just the comfy chairs and free coffee and stuff, but when it really matters, between long flights, it's utterly delightful to have a shower and freebie internet before getting on the next longhaul.

Two long stints in the Los Angeles terminal 4 public area before catching the midnight transPacific to Sydney made me very appreciative of having lounge access. It turns purgatory into heaven. Trust me, after eight hours or so, you get very sick of recorded announcements and fighting for a power outlet.

Hey! Wondered if I could pick your brain since you seem to have a talent for travel?

I just got back from China and am already planning my next. Unfortunately, I don't think I can get away until December next year. Anyway, do you have any recommendations on how to get to Europe cheaply? I don't care if it takes me twice as long or has dodgy stopovers or anything, I just want to get there!

How cheap is cheap? You could probably get there for about a thousand dollars by keeping an eye on Flight Centre's site. I just found a thousand dollar via JAL Canberra London fare, leaving today.

Or there are round the world fares for about $2000. These might not go to all the places you want and have a lot of restrictions, but they WILL get you there.

Maybe you could string together a bunch of flights on odd carriers, using specials, and get the cost down even lower. Once you get into the Northern Hemisphere cutprice market, there are some amazing fares available, but be warned, Ryanair and others don't offer any frills, and travel between some pretty weird places.
