In transit

I picked up the printed copies yesterday from Officeworks. Took them an extra hour or so while I moped about the shop looking at software and printers and stuff. Finally they had the books, a stack of six, ready for collection and as they processed my credit card I had a quick flick through. Not too bad. The photographs came out better than on my little inkjet, and they'd expanded the 6"x9" format to A4/letter, so the font was nice and big without affecting the formatting none.

So the physical format was fine, but like any writer, it's the words that matter, and I fear that mine are a little weak. sure there's a few jokes, but there's far too much that is boring as butter - where we stopped for lunch, what our accomodation was like etc.

It is also missing the Maori Wars Appendix, and without the Maori Wars, a lot of the early material is left hanging.

It could have more Lord of the Rings in it - the title promises a fair amount.

Oh well. It's out of my hands now. I registered ten copies and printed six, but (as usual) I forgot which BCIDs had been sent until it was too late to check. Two went off to New Zealand where the Christchurch folk are having their own convention, and I remembered to get those numbers, but the four copies going to St Louis are a bit of a guess, and I'll have to wait until someone makes a journal entry on them before I know if I've picked the correct ones.

Busy checking the FedEx tracking system every half hour or so. The St Louis ones are probably over the Eastern Pacific now, but the Christchurch package hasn't left Sydney yet. The estimated delivery times are still OK, but.

All told, each copy cost me about $40. I hope somebody likes the dam' things!

I'm sure there will be a battle over who gets to take the St. Louis copies home.

Thanks, Shen! I dare say there will be, and I hope they keep on travelling. My regret is that these actual printed copies are so unfinished and unpolished.

And they don't even have the picture of the dam' book under the glacier that started it off - I took that out to put on the back cover and I haven't done the back cover yet.

Maybe we'll need to have another drawing?

Hopefully everyone who gets the first shot will agree to form rays for the book, so more people will get to read it.
