Back in the Service

I was supposed to be driving Taxi 144 for a few more days, but the owner gave me Taxi 58 for Wednesday. This is a Silver Service Fairlane, one of the three (TX-58, TX-81 and my own TX-112) that the fleet went into business with about this time last year.

A pleasure, a very great pleasure, to be driving Silver Service again. The car's a dream to drive, lots of room, passengers always impressed and well-behaved, six CDs on tap etc.

I also get to pick it up each afternoon from O'Connor, which reduces my travel time to a few minutes day and night. After driving until three in the morning, the last thing I want is to spend another half hour driving home, so this is much appreciated.

I'm always a happy cabby, but I'm an even happier one now.

Amsterdam, here I come!

Much to my surprise, Amsterdam's bid for the 2010 Anniversary Convention won in a global poll. I was sure that the Americans would wrest it back by sheer weight of numbers.

Moem put on a brilliant presentation at the London Convention, and Amsterdam easily headed the votes there. Unstoppable moementum, probably.

So, looks like our 2010 holiday will include Amsterdam. I think we'll combine it with one of those river cruises, starting or leaving from Amsterdam with the other end of the trip in Eastern Europe somewhere. And an opportunity to spend a day or two in Istanbul.

Must start research. And dreaming.
