...my luggage is in New York.

They sent my luggage directly to New York from Glasgow, which explains why it wasn't on the carousel. I guess I could have gone looking and asking, but I'd already kept people waiting long enough, and I figured it would catch up to me at some point.

Which it will, just not now. I wish I'd put my mobile phone charger in my carryon, because the battery is all but drained.

Just skyped my daughter - she's on the way to pick me up in another couple of hours. I'll be missing the final flight of the trip from Sydney to Canberra, but that's OK.

Tokyo was wet and from a little after we lifted off until we arrived off the coast of Queensland, it was dark. I got a glorious view of Sydney as we came in. I wish I'd kept my camera out, but the normal view isn't very special - coming in from the south you get ocean and Botany Bay, from the north there's the western suburbs or the city from the west (looking into the rising sun). As it happened we came in along the northern shore of the harbour, went out to sea and landed from the south, quite an unexpected course and beautiful to see all the lights of the central city from above.

I've had a tub and am catching up a bit. Time for a coffee now...

So, your luggage got a late start, and is now trying to make up for the fun it missed earlier! At least, you're home safely and had your bath and coffee. I hope to meet you, too, at the Charleston convention next year.

Isn't that twice now this trip that your luggage has gone off on it's own??

I hadn't realised that was a unusual flightpath into Sydnye as thats what our plane did :) I wondered why everyone kept looking at me strangel when I mentioned it. It was an amazing view for someone who'd never flown or been to Sydney before. I hope the flight path into Adelaide is just as scenic!

Hm, wonder if I should check in my backpack at all, tomorrow. I mean wouldn't be very funny to start the hike without my stuff! The London bag isn't that important, just dressy clothes, but my boots and stuff...?
Hey, I'll get the chance for a window seat tomorrow! I'll have to be in Frankfurt 2.5h in advance (because of the train connection), so I'll check in right away and ask for a front row window seat :-). Last time I spotted the London Eye from above.

You may be able to reserve a seat depending on airport website. www.checkmytrip.com will show your seat and those that are free. Mind you, there's usually a lot more seats available than shown, as forward seats are usually kept "blocked off" for premium travellers, and exit rows require an assessment from the agent to ensure that you are physically capable of tossing the door out of the window.
