Catching up

skyringA busy couple of days. Or at least busy in that I don't seem to have had much in the way of spare time.
Preparing for the trip, both mentally and physically. Just this minute I'm overjoyed to learn that the USS Pampanito spent some time in Fremantle during World War Two. This will make for a good link in my book, because the Pampanito is the submarine moored at San Francisco. I went aboard her in April and released a book inside. Even more wonderful is that the sub rescued some Australian POWs and when she pulled into Fremantle, a group of them were waiting. Apparently it was a ripper of a shore leave!
In other news, my bright yellow LL Bean rolling duffel arrived. Stout, roomy, some excellent features. I'll be giving this one a workout over the next couple of months, and it looks like just the thing. I can take life a bit easier at baggage carousels - this and my BookCrossing tote bag will stand out like the proverbial!
We stopped at a hardware shop on the way into Queanbeyan and when i got home I was finally able to fix the leaking tap in the kitchen - a difficult task because the tap spindle only has about half of turn, and if I set a normal washer so the tap is usable, it drips when closed, and if i get an overthick washer it doesn't let any water past at all! Anyway, it works fine now. I also got a masonry drill bit and I am drilling holes in one of kerri's big plant pots which she says doesn't have enough drainage. I think it's made out of marble, because it laughs at my normal drill bits.
Still hot here. In fact it's a total fire ban. But the days are shortening fast, and dawn comes long after 0600. time for daylight saving to end.
