By George!

One of the things Sparky-Redhead introduced me to was Where's George? I immediately marked all the US currency in my possession (note to Americans, those 1c coins are really fiddly) and sent it off into the wide world. I sorta lost interest a while later, as the only notes that were ever tracked were six bills I sent to a friend in Washington to pay for a book, and she promptly turned around and gave them to a visiting Australian mate who dutifully made entries when he returned home. To Canberra.

Anyway, I got a notification this morning. Germany to Australia to Wisconsin! Either I gave the bill to Kerri on one of her trips or (more likely) I took it with me last January. Looks like the shopkeep is a WG fan!

I prefer books, but.

I think you have an unfair advantage, what with both of you traveling so much - my best distance for a WG bill so far is barely a few hundred miles. Though I did have one caught by a very cheerful Where's-Georger who had posted some of his own favorite catches - one of which was a bill that turned up in a nude dancer's G-string!

Love how some of your bills promptly came back - BC books often do that as well, so there must be a homing instinct involved. Remind me in Toronto and we can swap marked bills if you like; technically I think the Where's George people frown on deliberately trading marked bills with other WGers, but at a bill or two who's to know? [Uh, unless they read LiveJournal. Never mind.]

Ooh, but if I sign up for the Canadian equivalent, register my cash at the Toronto convention, and get Ottawabill to take me to a strip joint where there are dancers with cash-seeking G-strings... It's almost too perfect that the Canadian site is called "Where's Willy"!

I'm not sure I've got the time and patience to go Wheresgeorging when I'm on the road BookCrossing - usually I've got a tonne of things to do online and never enough time to do them all. But I've got a few greenbacks here - I'll mark them up before I leave.

Snorted coffee out my nose at your last para. I won't comment!

My poor keyboard also got a bit damp at the previous comment.

my only WG bills came from a BCer in California, but I have gotten one journal entry (or whatever they call them) since then. Pretty exciting!

re: the bills promptly coming back to you -- I just got a journal entry on a book that two of us paid to send to New Zealand (via m-bag). It's now back in the US :) (borrowing one of Gory's wry grins)

Oh you think the pennys are bad? Wait 'til you meet the one yen coins! They're not even made of the same material the normal coins are.

Oh and remind me to give you my Australian change when you're here! :)
