Not a lot of writing yesterday. Our anniversary, and Kerri wasn't keen at me spending too much time doing my things, though she did allow me a few skypes.

"It sounded like they were right ther in the room with you!" said my son later on, and I explained how I didn't have the headphones in my headset connected up, just the microphone, so the other side of the conversation came through the speakers. You skype me and anyone in the house can listen in - my room is just a few stairs down fro the kitchen, and there's always some on in or passing by the kitchen.

DS and I were doing his junk mail run. He's signed up for a weekend run as well as the mid-week, so as to get his computer paid off faster. Bless his heart! Mind you, he'll be doing it alone now that holidays are here. I think he knows the layout of the streets now and can do it by himself. I might give him a hand from time to time - he's still quite slow.

DD was off for most of the day with her babysitting job. She gets paid a lot more than I do! But she loves kids and is putting her all into it, using lessons learnt from "Super Nanny" on TV. I'm so proud of her!

In the afternoon, I dragged Kerri off to Glebe Park to meet Littlemave from Sydney, her husband and the three littlermavettes. Husband's birthday, and I popped a bottle of champagne in the picnic basket, but the rain came in at the park and we hustled off to Starbucks, where we couldn't really drink alcohol and other stuff we'd brought in from outside, though we did open a packet of chips as we sat at an outside table, at least until the rain started pelting down when we moved to a table with more shelter.

Did I mention the trampoline guy? DS's trampoline has been losing springs at a fairly regular rate. The mat's a few years old, it's been restitched once , but the spring attachments have been failing and we got a new mat installed yesterday before it became too dangerous. DS loves his trampoline. If he has a hard day at school, he goes out and jumps on it for half an hour. If he has a good day, he jumps for half an hour. He puts a lot of stress on the mat, but it's good exercise, and he's thin and wiry and strong. I should trampoline as much as he does, hey?

Dinner was just us at the "Two Sisters" Lao/Thai restaurant in Dickson. BYOG, so I nipped downstairs and bought some champagne. "Bella" made by Yellowglen, who have rarely made a bad drop.

Bella turns out to be pink and sweet and absolutely undrinkable. Maybe if you are a giggly 18YO it works well, but we couldn't have more than a few mouthfuls. Kerri decided that I was obviously incompetent she had better buy a replacement bottle and went quickly down to the grog shop next door and bought something instantly forgettable, but not bad for drinking. The food could have been a bit spicier, but wasn't bad.

Not quite the intimate French place we went to last year, but this was a lot cheaper. And quicker.

Detoured home via the Mount Ainslie lookout. All but deserted on a damp Saturday evening, but it was clear and bright when we arrived, even if the cloud was a little low. The lights of the city looked particularly attractive, especially Anzac Parade, aimed straight at us. I might love other cities, and I've been thinking fond thoughts of San Francisco lately, but Canberra is where my heart truly is.

I should be writing. I'm getting into the stride of it. Finding out things about my characters. Building up different levels of story and meaning. It's very rough and ready, but I'm pleased with where I'm going. whether I finish it on time is looking increasingly unlikely, but we'll see.

Responding to the challenge to include BookCrossing in my novel isn't hard. Unlike others who have set their stories in historical times - one talked about "a book crossing the kingdom", which I thought was clever - it's pretty easy for me. My main location has a sort of "lost property room" at the back, and it's not too hard to find a BookCrossing title there. I even worked out what the title must be. Only a few will get the reference, but it's a good one.

Sunday today. Will try to steal a few hours for a few more thousand words. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be long and difficult.

It's a dream cafe. I figure I can bend the rules of real life a bit to make a good story!
