Rang up a week ago, today was the first available slot, so I've been washing the dishes in the sink, using one of the dishwasher racks as a drying tray. Not unpleasant, looking out on the front garden, so long as I get the water temp right.

Looks like a busted valve caused the problems - $156 to fix, most of that being just for the guy to show up. I'll have to fit a tap to reduce the water pressure so that the valve isn't under as much strain in future. Seems like the original fitting was put in twenty years back when dishwasher connections didn't need their own taps, and when I bought a new machine, I just unhooked the old one and connected the new one.

My scanner arrived today and is emitting incomprehensible airport type squawks. I'll have to learn how to interpret this, I guess. Had to drive across town to Belconnen because my eBay preferences had somehow remembered my old work place address, now occupied by a firm of accountants and causing cnfusion all around.

Stopped off in Kathmandu on the way home and bought a camera tripod. A light thing, optimised for travel, with telescoping legs and things. I can stow it in a backpack. And take panoramas and night pictures and long distance shots that aren't blurry.

Walking along Blamey Crescent today, saw the postie on his little motorcycle, getting swooped by a magpie and not too happy about it. Those things are dangerous - every year dozens of cyclists are injured through swooping magpies. Not because they get pecked, but because they are too busy keeping an eye on the bird to watch where they are going!

Perhaps the best part of the day was getting Unbalanced's adventures written up as an article. He wrote it, I massaged it a bit, and Bookczuk and Antof9 licked it into shape. Such a funny story. He's really the sweetest chap you could hope to meet, and I love it when his face creases up into a smile, as it so often does. I'm sure he'll be smiling at some of the responses.

What a delightful article. :-)

Is there going to be a separate journal for the London book as well?

Btw, before you commit to a final publication through LuLu, would you have a chat with me first? Have an idea for you. Not right now, but when I get back, maybe.

They are dangerous! The other weekend I was riding home and saw someone signalling to me about it but nothing eventuated so I thought perhaps the bird have given up THEN I actually rode under the tree and SWOOP - thank goodness for helmets but I did a bit of a swerve! Have to cycle a different way tomorrow if the sun shines!
