I watched one of the Season 4 eps yesterday at lunchtime. Such a great show; it gets better with each viewing, as subtle details emerge and storylines back and forth are fleshed out. The first four seasons were aired here, but mostly on a late time slot and I missed a few along the way. One of the local journalists was also a fan and he tried, in his daily column, to organise a boycott of advertisers who appeared on the channel. As it worked out, the channel didn't change the time slot, the journalist lost his job, there was a long delay before the fifth season began being aired and when it returned it was frequently displaced by other shows and eventually disappeared altogether.
So when I saw a DVD set of the complete fifth season on eBay for thirty dollars cheaper than the retail price, I didn't hesitate. The seller had a good rating, he said he didn't sell pirated material and it all looked pretty good.
The $15 for shipping was a bit of a shock, and when the package arrived yesterday, I found out why. It was posted from China, the packaging and DVD's themselves have Chinese characters on them, and the packaging is not as professional as one might hope. I can't tell if it was pirated or is domestic packaging. (Hmmm, is West Wing a big seller in China?) On closer inspection, the package notes refer to UK websites and is not to be exported outside the EU.
Oh well. It works. I gave the seller good feedback. I got what was advertised. I've got series one on video, and yet to get a set of series three, which seems to sell for $40 or thereabouts on eBay Australia. I might do a bit more checking before buying copies in future.
