How'd it go?
May. 23rd, 2005 06:12 pmWell, the first thing I have got to say is that lecturers are a lot younger and hunkier than they were in my day. Dr Paul Magee could be a movie star! He had
silvanime and CoffeeBron in the palm of his hand when I walked in. A lovely guy, and he put me right at ease.
I set up in the lecture room and discovered that I'd forgotten to bring the books I'd carefully accumulated for the day, made release notes on, and set aside in a book bag all of their own. Blast!
So I didn't have anything to give away, except for an Oprah Book Club novel I'd brought along to register in the unlikely event that I ran out of things to say and needed to demonstrate how to do Bookcrossing.
Never mind. With two friendly Bookcrossers in the audience cheering me on, I felt no nerves. My presentation wasn't terribly polished, but I'll get better. As I expected, my enthusiasm carried me through, and I didn't need to read and mumble my way through my notes. It wasn't an award-winning performance by any means, and I guess after a while my delivery will flow more naturally, but for somebody who doesn't like speaking to more than a handful of people at once, well, I feel very good about it!
Afterwards, CoffeeBron led me by the hand to the refectory, where I collapsed in a grateful heap with a cappucino, and we talked of cats and books and Bookcrossers.
Thank you, Bron and Silvanime, for the morale-boosting support. And thank you Bron for taking control of the camera. Much appreciated, both of you!
