Yoko, you are wonderful! I knew there was something special about you the moment I clapped eyes on your first forum post!

Oh joy! Yoko and I get to *do* Skyring (her words, not mine, but it is my czukles you hear)

Who are you? Chief cheerleader, Stateside branch of the "We love Skyring" club

Are we friends? For Life!!!

If we've met, when and how did we meet? Only in cyberspace, though we did chat on the phone...or I chatted and you fretted that you 'd be late. Humph.

What social event or place would you like to go to with me? Exploring anywhere- I love your take on life and the world. As long as you let me catch my breath from laughing.

Would you kiss me? Before or after you sweep me off my feet?

Describe me in one word. Wonderful. In two words:absolutely wonderful. In three words: Utterly, absolutely wonderful. I think you catch my drift here.

What was your first impression? This bloke is funny! (But I kept reading your name as "SkyKing: and kept thinking of Texans and Airplanes...prophetic, I suppose.)

Do you still think that way about me now? Now it's only one in a string of characteristics that you bring to mind

What reminds you of me? Tim-tams, bookabouts, clever puns, and the ping of IM starting up

If you could give me anything what would it be? Books written by you being successful enough to carry you and Kerri wherever you wish to go- and time in your day to do all you want to get done.

How well do you know me? Better each day

When's the last time you saw me? Silly! your picture's on your page! I love the smile!

Ever wanted to tell me something but couldn't? Not yet

Are you going to put this on your blog and see what I say about you? You already put a smile on my face this morning with what you wrote, you devil! (Oh yeah....you're an Aussie bloke...same thing.)

You and Yoko have fair made my day! I'm so very glad to be a part of this wonderful global community. We're scattered around the world, but through the Internet we're in each others' computers, lounge rooms. And hearts.

Am I too late to play?

Awww, now I'm all blushy. ;-)

I pretty much don't take passengers, but having added 3000 miles to my riding experience in the equivalent of three weeks, I guess I might have a few more skills kicking around these days. We'll see.

Did you really say that I was your hero?

EXTRACT: Raven's Roads, (c) 2005 Linda Raven Moore

So the first ice-breaker of the 2005 North American Book Crossing Convention was a Book Crossing baby shower for Marina, which started with a casual, only half-serious comment by email. It was a delight. I had asked people to contribute books, which in keeping with Book Crossing style did not have to be new, and should be registered; there were many books, and also many presents of a more general style, including a baby cowboy suit, which took the biscuit. People showed up a few at a time and there were hugs and helloes as new friends were made and old ones were renewed.

Most of us don't see one another except for online during the year, and it was wonderful to put faces to screen names and find out what the real names were. Pete-Skyring from Australia wandered in and immediately recognised me. “My hero!” he cried, having been following my adventures on Live Journal all along, and immediately scopped me up in a big hug and kiss. I was incredibly touched.

Often, people recognised me long before I recognised them, mostly because I post lots of pictures and am perhaps a bit more open about sharing my life online, at least with my friends. I have been playing in the online world since 1992, and I guess I am not nearly as shy as most...I save my shyness for the real world. Feeling like an unutterable geek, I frequently had to ask people what their user name was first, but with Pete the soft-spoken Australian accent was an immediate and dead giveaway.

[identity profile] skyring.livejournal.com 2005-05-13 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Crikey! Do I have an accent?

I've been following your life for a year or more now, and in that time you've gone further afield than I ever had, and you've persevered with learning to ride a motorbike in difficult conditions. You've done or are doing some bold and magic things and I've sought inspiration from you in my own life, though not to the extent of riding a motorbike. Fair suck!

You've gone whipping off to the UK at the drop of a hat, and maybe that was in my mind when I decided to fly to Washington in January. Your joy in travel and taking photographs and Bookcrossing and general geekiness matches mine, and it was YOU I wanted to see most of all in Fort Worth.

We both seemed to be having adventures on the way to the convention, and I might have flown two thirds of the way around the globe to get there and had a wonderful Bookcrossing adventure of my own, but it was all comfortable chairs and cities and a roof over my head.

In comparison, you were out there in the vast wilderness, just you and a bike and a couple of saddlebags. I was enormously impressed at your courage, and even more so when I flew to San Francisco and looked down on the great deserts and mountains you'd crossed.

I scopped you up in my arms, did I? Looks like that manuscript needs proofreading, and you may send it along as soon as ever you like!
