Java at 36 000 feet

The wings just swallowed up Denpasar (on the Indonesian island of Bali), outlined in lights, and the cabin lights just eclipsed the faint hinterland. Two in the morning and the cabin crew is preparing us for breakfast before landing in Singapore. It’s a long night, and putting two breakfasts into the middle of it makes it no shorter.
My son would approve of first and second breakfasts.
A meal over the Java Sea – cornflakes and milk, lit from below by flashes of lightning filling the clouds with a sudden glow.
