As I've mentioned elsewhere, the Christchurch Convention bus tour took us for a picnic at Akaroa, a little French settlement in the extinct volcano that makes up the Banks Peninsula. They arrrived in 1840, six days after British sovereignty was proclaimed, but liked the place so much they stayed, and gave a French influence to this most British of nations. As we came in, we spotted signs saying "Book Sale", and we discovered that the local lawn bowls club was having their annual sale, with the clubroom dominated by trestle tables full of books. Heh. We all trooped in and soon had armloads at three for $2.

I got my money's worth with a couple of good books, but one I picked up "on spec", an old kid's book in good nick with a good dustjacket. Just looked it up on ABE and discovered that it's worth about $US100.

So that's a bit of a win, quite apart from the great time we had at the convention.

Been providing a bit of feedback in the conventions forum. Basically it's only little details that are worthy of criticism. Except for internet access. What I need is lots of high speed wireless internet at minimal cost. Not sure I'll be getting it.

* grin * I hear you! I have a stable connection here at Marina's and all I did last night was catch up, catch up, catch up. Marina too. We're also sitting here on Monday morning, catching up. ;-)

The comforts of home! :; big grin ::
