Geek Week

I'm a sucker for gadgets. Aldi puts out notice of next week's specials nd I noticed last week that they had a couple of goodies for laptops.

Well, I'll be dependent on my laptop for the next month, so I went out and got the goodies today.

First off is a little light that plugs into the USB port. It's got a flexible goosenek with a LED light on the end, and the idea is that it pokes around the screen and illuminates the keyboard. This will be useful in using the puter at night, especially in a plane - the screem doesn't give enough light to illuminate the keys and I hate turning on the overhead light, probably disturbing the passenger next to me.

Second is a little travel case full of gizmos. They all have little retractable springloaded cable reels, so don't take up much space or get tangled. I really wanted the tiny little USB optical wheel mouse. About as big as two thumbs together. Big saving in weight and space. The others are just gravy really, but there's a USB extension, a few USB connectors for various plugs and sockets, Firewire connectors, a network cable and a phone cable. And a tiny little microphone and earpiece. All in a nifty little travel case. Great for travelling - the bottom of my laptop bag usually becomes a jungle of intertwangled cables and things and this will keep all straight. All in all it probably weighs about as much as the normal mouse I take along anyway. Very handy.

$8 for the light and $36 for the little gizmoes. Worth every cent.

Into packing mode. Making sure my clothes are clean and straight. Registering books. Tidying up loose ends. Enjoying the anticipation.

I got one of those goosneck USB lights for mr czuk and for my brother- they're great! And as you say, perfect for laptops. Now, dang you, I'll have to search out the gismo kit and put it on my list of things to buy when lent is over, and I no longer have this self imposed restriction on spending!
