East and West
Dec. 7th, 2004 10:52 amWest is the West Wing, as good as ever. This time we have President Bartlett agonising over Zoey, and President Walken willing to bomb the crap out of the Middle East. The assassination story surfaces at the best possible moment. And everyone else is caught in the crossfire with divided loyalties in a fast-moving situation where sleep is short.
And East is Christchurch, where thebiblioholic, Mundoo and I are all booked into the Aalton Motel for the convention. I looked at the youth hostel, but it didn't seem to be up to Kerri's standards and as the Aalton is almost fronting the Botanic Gardens, it was a nobrainer.
So that's three of us. So far.
Mind you, taking Kerri along adds to the expense enormously. If it was just me, I'd be happy to sleep in a youth hostel bunk room with three strangers, as I did in Sydney where I had a whale of a time. Sharing the holiday with my dear wife adds another plane ticket, higher grade accomodation (like about $NZ100 a night), car hire and six more nights than I would have staid. Then again, it's a week of holiday for us both, Kerri especially, where we don't go racing around the countryside and we can sit and do nothing for days at a time in some delightful locations. That's priceless nowadays.
I might even get some books read.

Date: 2004-12-06 04:51 pm (UTC)The Vice President nomination is one more factor. How delicious if a Republican VP was appointed to work with Bartlett. And of course this is exactly how it was meant to be back in the 18th Century - the defeated candidate would become the VP to the winner's President.
Walken might be a Neanderthal - and whoever said that the FBI needs more time to work on finding Zoey is absolutely spot on - but he's also one smart cookie. The way he dressed down CJ as she straightened his tie was superb.
So good to see this show back on telly again after an enormous wait. Happy Peter!
