Full on at the Skyring desk.

On the left side is my workstation, crammed to the gunwales with open windows and running programs, including this one. Working my way through the backlog of book orders. ABE, Alibris and more recently a welcome flood of Amazon. Amazon takes 15% off my list price, but gives me a decent postage rebate. This takes a fair amount of processing power - five programs running just to support booksales, though admittedly I'm using IE and Outlook for other things at the same time.

On the right hand side is the server, an old IBM running a demo version of Windows Server 2003 which will probably quit on me at any moment. I'm filling in the blanks of "Manly Books" with the Bookcrossing journal entries and stuff. Working a few thoughts in - I just realised when and where Ann's father died - and I'm trying to be as subtle as I can. Show don't tell.

In the middle is the laptop, running a DVD version of Workingman's Dead. I'm on a Grateful Dead kick because I was looking for a band that both Chuck and Ann liked. Grateful Dead popped into my mind as a suitably odd group and on doing a little research, I found it eminently suitable. Can't get enough of it.

Outside a galah picks through the seeds in my bird feeder. These and the other parrots are a great joy - their life and movement and bright colours an exotic touch to the suburbia I inhabit.

In the lounge behind me my teenage daughter is watching Apocalypse Now in preparation for her trip to Vietnam. The Redux version, which I don't particularly care for, but I don't think she can go and not know something about the war, even an over-the-top movie such as AN. Must find Good Morning Vietnam with its constant stream of great songs.

A nice comment or two on the NaNoWriMo forum from a young lady who suddenly "got" the blog style of writing. She'd been using a blog as well, but writing down her own thoughts before inserting a chunk of the work in progress. The notion that the whole thing was Ann, with all her flaws of narration, just hit her and she thought it was cool.

It's all starting to come together now. I've purposefully not been looking too much at the text as I cut and paste. I'll move it over to the workstation and work on it there when I'm done assembling the parts. Read it and edit and add and delete as I go so it's more or less coherent.
