That Guernsey Woman
Anyone read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? A delightful book about an enchanted island recovering from a dreadful invasion. The setting is real, and the story might have been.
I love Guernsey. One of the Channel Islands beside Jersey, between England and France. I've visited twice now, and each time been charmed. The delightful Jenny Kendall-Tobias, whom I first heard on internet radio when she interviewed British BookCrosser Netstation some years ago, is returning to broadcasting in a couple of hours time at 1000 Sunday, London time. She took a couple of years off to have a baby, and confesses to me that she is terrified about the show. I've told her that it's easy to talk to people you love about a place you love, and she'll do just fine.
Her Sunday Phone-in show will give a unique insight into the flavour of life on the island, where the laws are written in Guernsey French and the head of state is the Duke of Normandy.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/guernsey/local_radio/ is the address to tune in on the internet. I'll be listening, with love in my ears, and as soon as you hear the bright tones of a tall blonde with a smile in her voice, you'll understand why.

I bought a copy of this recently and sent it to Alkalinekiwi who had it on her wishlist. We were only talking about the book at meetup today too.

Listening to Jenny at the moment. Good to hear her, but I've got to say that Guernsey politics isn't quite my cup of tea!

A remarkable thing about this novel is that everyone seems to love it!

I remember several years ago while I was working in London I had my computer tuned to Jenny Kendall-Tobias's program and emailing comments during the show.

I thought of you while reading it as I know through your blog how much you like Guernsey and this inspired me to want to go but well who knows when that will be.
It was a lovely book - though it did remind me in the beginning of Helene Hanff "84 Charing Cross Road"
