skyringFinished up early Saturday morning. My last job was dropped off about 0215 and I didn't bother going back in for another drunk from Alinga Street. I would have had to line up, take them home and then go to one of the few Shell servos open in the wee smalls to gas up and clean the car. That might have taken me well past three in the morning, and I was tired. Usually I stop for a power nap around 2300, but there was too much work for that,
Got up early, like around eight, so Kerri and I could do our fruit and veg shopping at the Fyshwick markets. I love this time with my wife. We have a coffee and a little cakey bit each, watching the people at the markets and listening to the fruitsellers calling out catchphrases as they offer samples. Full of colour and interest, Children running around pursued by indulgent parents, a second-hand fundraising stall to browse through, the Asian grocery with exotic treats, the displays at the deli and nut shop, and finally the Saturday task of getting smiles from the counterstaff. I love making the ladies smile - they must have a long time of it serving customer after customer.
And then home to bed. I usually spend most of Saturday sleeping. Today the kids were off at the Canberra Show, so there was more quiet than usual.
A lazy late afternoon reading the papers and sitting with Kerri watching the news. She made a Thai beef salad that was just wonderful, and then we sat outside in the evening. She had ginger ale, I had a Magners cider. We're off for a weekend in Merimbula with Kerri's book club soon, and she hasn't got the book yet, let alone read it. So we took ourselves off to Paperchain in Manuka. Here are all the people from the markets, sipping coffee, strolling, browsing. And a few of my cabbie mates, invisible on the rank.
We got the book, Kerri found yet another philosophy text, and I found an audiobook of "The Long Tail" markd down from $52.99 to $5.00.
It's now loaded up in iTunes, and I'll listen to it in the cab.
We also booked flights to Queensland for June. Kerri's got some St John Ambulance conference on the Gold Coast, and I'm coming along for the ride. We'll stay at her father's house and I'll laze around while she meets her fellow Ambo folk. $79 each way - bargain flights on Qantas!
