Well, I had lunch in New York yesterday, but that's a long time and three long flights ago.

I've just arrived in the Perth YHA, where I have a private room - spartan but very welcome - where I plan to spend a fair amount of the next twenty four hours asleep. Home to Canberra late on Monday.

Tomorrow - I think it will be Sunday - I'll be meeting the Perth BookCrossers. If I'm awake. Looking forward to seeing the Statue of Libertine.

Gee but it's good to be back home again, warbled John Denver on the radio when I arrived. I sang along with him, smiling loonily.

I've got internet here, and I'll see if I can - in between snores - update my travel blog at http://www.skyring.com.au. I'm also making a manful attempt to upload photographs to flickr at http://flickr.com/photos/skyring/

I've had such a superb trip. Thanks to all those who took time out from their busy lives to see me for a drink or a plate of ribs or a day on the town. It means the world to me.

Literally.

we better end it there. I have been thinking about all the things you and I could write and it's best to just stop :)

Hope you are well after big trip. I am in qantas club in Melbourne looking longingly at "that" door. And then reading the skyring blog that allows you to pass through it. One day I say to myself

Well, I gotta say that most of the time, the First or Business lounge isn't worth the extra effort. In Sydney, yeah. In Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific's whole lounge is excellent and the First end is good, but not that better.

Most of British Airways lounges, I can't get into the real First lounge - the Concorde Room - because you've actually got to be travelling in First. So BA's First lounges are full of oneWorld Emeralds in Economy or Business flyers.

The new Qantas Business lounges are aiming for a premium image, but so far as I can see, the door is the big difference.

For me, the "wank factor" is important. I'm happy to be a cabbie, but I'm not "just" a cabbie. And, like the computer nerd or the camera geek having the latest and greatest, getting to Platinum was the top for me in my chosen hobby.

For practical, QF membership or a Gold card are all I really need for comfort and privileges like more luggage, showers between longhaul sectors, priority boarding etc. Platinum is OTT, and probably not worth the money that must be spent to gain and retain.

Having said that, this is what I do for fun, and I figure if I spend sixty hours a week driving the night shift, I'm entitled to a couple of weeks of indulgence per year.

Too right you are.

Also very interesting to read about "behind the doors".

Many hobbies I do ::not:: understand. This ff one of yours I COMPLETELY understand. As I reckon I have discussed before I could really get into "the game" but not just at the moment. Too much else going on.
But thanks for sharing it all. One day I may have many more questions.

best regards
