A laidback Brisbane convention. Like all the Australian and New Zealand conventions, there's not a lot of formality, people come and go, there's lots of spare time to socialise, browse bookshops, post things on the internet.
Much as I like the other conventions, the ANZ model is a winner with me, simply because I don't get quite so overwhelmed and short of time.
I had a chance after the farewell brunch, before the final dinner, to sneak away to the Crumpler shop in the City. We don't have a Crumpler outlet in Canberra, and I adore their bags and packs. I had a quick look through on Saturday on the bookshop crawl, but not quite enough time to check through the range comprehensively.
I've got a daypack from Kathmandu which is OK, kind of, but turns out to be uncomfortable after a while. It's got one of those diagonal straps, which don't really work with my body shape, and if I carry it over one shoulder, it is awkward and heavy. Storage space is a little tight, too.
So I was keen on a replacement. A proper two-strap daypack.
Spoilt for choice in the shop. Heavy on messenger bags, camera bags and phone holders, all looking marvellous, straps and pockets and velcro and zips. Several odels of backpack, but after checking the price of the model with a built-in laptop holder, I blanched and opted for something a little cheaper. Like half the price.
This model has a pocket where I can squeeze in my existing laptop sleeve. An exact fit with the MacBook Air. Perfect. That leaves an internal pocket with a zip for gadgets and goodies, a big cave for camera and rainjacket and books, and two exterior-zipped pockets for small items. Like RingBear..
Unavailable in BookCrossing yellow, unfortunately, but the red bag is eyecatching. Once upon a time I would have opted for the beigey colour, but that time has past. And the black is far too common. I want to be able to pick out my bag on a crowded carousel. If need be.
Very happy with my new Crumpler.
