It was somewhere off Malaysia, about two months back, that my laptop went into cripple mode. I'm pretty sure that it was because I wasn't able to renew my OneCare subscription due to leaving it to the last minute, and that minute coinciding with the period when I had no internet access. Since then, no iTunes, no printing, lots of difficulty in editing and saving files, problems in internet access...
I finally got a backup or two made and hunted down the recovery disks I created when I bought this thing last year. I've spent a lot of the day and evening swapping disks in and out, clicking on "yes I agree" boxes and waiting waiting waiting.
I think I've got everything back except possibly my mail. And some programs I may have to download and install again. Most importantly I've got all the photographs I took over the past year.
Big raspberry to Microsoft, big cheer for Western Digital and their tiny 250 gig external disk.

Re: (((((((((((((((((((((Skyring)))))))))))))))))))))))
Skyring your entry reminds me that I should burn a disc of my photos and everything else as my laptop has some F1 error? I have to push F1 every time I start it as it has some weird message.
I'm glad you didn't lose your photos!

iPods are amazing tough creatures. There's some galoot who tests new iPods to destruction. Has an entertaining website. Washing and drying one is probably just a sign of affection.
