Two books. The first is a German grammar handbook which is a delight. Nicely priced at $13.55, it is laid out much like a software manual, with lots of sidebars, different fonts, examples, structured chapters, cross-references and so on. I love it, and you may see me taking a break at Subway, munching my way through a cajun steak sandwich, poring over a grammar book.

The second is a book and CD from the library: "Sing and Learn German!". It's aimed at kids, I guess, but I'm finding it a lot of fun, and I'm learning my ABC (Vor der Tor liegt dicker Schnee), my numbers, my clothes (Ich zie' mich an: erst die Strumpfe dann das T-Shirt und die Shorts), my colours with Leon das Chamaleon (Grau wie eine Maus, gelb wie die Zitrone, wie sieht denn Leon aus?) and a whole bunch more. I sing cheerfully along mit die songs on der CD.

So the odd bits in my taxidriving day are full of German. My day driver is getting used to me greeting him in odd ways": "Hallo, mein Freund! Wie geht es dir?"

I kind of wish I'd had as much fun and been as devoted to learning French and Italian back in my schooldays. Maybe I'd have gotten higher marks. Oh well, there's more of a payoff in this, I can have fun amusing my German freunds.

Elhamisabel, I blame you. I still have that "Germans, Germans, hope you like Germans too!" earworm chewing its way through mein kopf.

Hehe
