Journal over
Aug. 11th, 2004 09:33 pmOK, here's something for those with carbies.
A young lady pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died. After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly. She says, "What's the story?" He replies, "Just crap in the carburetor." She asks, "How often do I have to do that?"
Meetup was last night. Cancelled, but HeidiAussie and I turned up informally, me somewhat late after a SQL Server SIG meeting. Database replication - real nerdy stuff with pizza. Parking was tight around Starbucks as every coot and their dog was going to the theatre. Packs of cars prowled around looking for openings and I had to park on the other side of the Canberra Centre. HeidiAussie is a delightful young lady, "enjoying" her first winter in Canberra, and I enjoyed her company, talking books and Bookcrossing for an hour, swapping a couple of titles and leaving a stack of books by the fireplace.
Amberjane was going to turn up to collect the journal, but what with one thing and another, couldn't make it. Fair enough. I spent a chunk of the afternoon sticking bits and pieces into the journal, writing a few words, and finishing off the photographs. I've had a rare old time with this journal - it's been an amzing amount of fun, and I got to see things I normally wouldn't have.
Next step is to write it all up in book form.
A bit of worry when my daughter came to me with her laptop - it was showing a black screen, but the power light was lit. Worked through the troubleshooter in the manual, no joy. Looking up similar problems on the Web made me think that I might have to send it back to Dell. Bummer. The last thing I tried was to remove the power supply and take out the battery to see if I could get it to boot, and praise Bill it worked!
I'm reading The Da Vinci Code as much as I can. Excellent thriller.
