Travel Meme lifted from Tzurriz

Oh boy! How could I resist? Some of these places (like Notre Dame) I've walked past rather than been inside. I guess that counts as being there.

Bold the places you've been and italicize the places you long to see.

You must try harder! You're clearly not doing enough flying!

;)

LOL! I'd do a RTW trip every second month if I could.

So many places to see, so many people to meet, so many books to read...

There'll never be enough time in my life to do all the things I'd like, but I am so glad that I got out of my rut and went travelling.

Love it! Now this is a meme that I can get behind. Maybe a bunch of us can plan a field trip to Stonehenge when we are in England for the the BXCon next year. It is one of my most longed for.

[identity profile] greedyreader.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And why did you walk past Notre Dame w/o stopping for a look/see?

[identity profile] skyring.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well no. I stopped, I took photographs, I had my picture taken, I came back before dawn when it wasn't crowded and took more photographs. I just didn't go inside.

I've staid at the hostel in the shadow of St Pauls five times now, and each time I've walked past the great cathedral in awe and admiration - just haven't gone inside.

[identity profile] sainity.livejournal.com 2007-05-08 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
St Pauls is amazing inside - if you go late in the day you can get in for 1/2 price, or free if you go to one of the evensong services. Seriously, the outside is nothing... the inside blows you away. The dome!

Notradame is not quite as amazing on the inside but still worth a look even if churches aint your thing and it's free to have a peek inside? Much cooler is La Chappelle, in my opinion (I must have spelt that wrong). Walls of stained glass. When it fills with light it's breathtaking.

[identity profile] reggiesgirl2.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, 75 places listed and I've been to two (#6 and #31) of them! How pathetic!

[identity profile] skyring.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, a couple of years ago, I'd been to only two of them (Sydney Opera House and Milford Sound - which I listed). Then, with a bottle of champagne it all changed!

But you've been to places I've never been, and you've had experiences I could never have. We're all different.

What makes a person interesting isn't the lands they have been, it is the territory between their ears, and I am happy to curl up with a drink and talk with you for hours, weeks, months, years!

[identity profile] reggiesgirl2.livejournal.com 2007-05-08 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, thanks!

And you know, I'm happy here at home, even if I never get to go around the world. I enjoy reading about your adventures while I sit here drinking tea. :)

[identity profile] lytteltonwitch.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I only been to two of those places,I need to travel more

[identity profile] thescrappycat.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Pete, Gettysburg is absolutely wonderful. If you can possibly get there, GO. You will love it. We stayed here: http://www.farnsworthhouseinn.com/ (The Farnsworth House)

The place has a sense of history unlike any other place I have ever visited. Would love to go back some day, and I hope you make it there, Pete!

[identity profile] skyring.livejournal.com 2007-05-07 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely on the list! Problem is that when I travel, I usually fly into a city and walk around, or stay within metroshot. Actually going out and taking another form of transport is something I don't often have time (or money) for. Exceptions are taking the Amtrak down to Richmond to see Sparky-redhead, or the Shinkansen to Hiroshima wth SKList, or the time I hired a car in Normandy.

One of my dreams is to start at Charleston - another excuse to see BookCzuk - and drive from Fort Sumter to Appomattox via all the major battlefields, leaving books in appropriate places.

[identity profile] fushmush.livejournal.com 2007-05-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
ugh! why are there so many amusement parks on there. Although, sadly, I have been to a lot of the amusement parks *G*.

Looking at the attendance figures, I guess whoever set up the meme just looked for the most popular tourist spots.

Pah! Hong Kong International would put them all to shame for numbers!

Me, I look at those art galleries yet unseen. You have no idea how much I relished going through Chicago's Art Institute with Mojosmom as a guide.
