Apparently there's a general aviation flight path that goes along the coast near LA, and this photographer happened to be passing as the 747 was launching. It's taken with extreme telephoto, which explains why the plane appears to be coming straight up - in reality it's a normal takeoff of five degrees or so. No possibility of collision, as the light plane is miles along the coast by the time the airliner reaches that height (and of course it would be a long way out to sea by that point, as airliner flight profiles level off after takeoff) but it certainly looks spectacular!
