Cari (now back in the USA) told me that her admission ticket to Osaka Castle kept on coming unglued from her scrapbook and must be trying to get back to me. Mine's still intact, as you can see, but I'd like to go back to Osaka Castle on a clear blue day, with Cari.

I had a wonderful few days in Japan and I owe a great debt to Cari for showing me around Hiroshima and Osaka. Every now and then I leaf through my journals and remember...

I looked through your photos and Cari's on flickr just yesterday to show my daughter as her class are making 1000 cranes after being read "sudako and the 1000 cranes" so I showed her the photos of all the cranes at the memorial. There are cranes in my lounge room and she's been trying to teach the younger ones to fold them too.

It was an inspiring experience for me, to see all those millions of cranes and know that they had been folded in love and hope by children all over the world.

The cranes are housed in glass display cases, and every so often they are gathered up, pulped, and made into bookmarks and notebooks and pens.

C said wouldn't they get ruined and I showed her how they were in glass boxes in the background of the photo of you and Cari.
She can fold them pretty fast now.
