Thanks to everybody commenting on our lost cat Jessica. I might not have the cat, but I have the support, sympathy and good wishes of so many friends, and that means a lot to me.

It's cold and grey today. Few drops of light rain as I hung out the laundry. May snow later - that sort of day.

Friday, the builders came in the morning and cemented the new shower base. Kerri was off in Sydney, and when she landed she called me to come get her. My first drive for a month and more. Mostly one-handed, but it was good to be behind the wheel. Then we went off and picked up some extra tiles for the shower work, fruit and veges from the Fyshwick Markts, lattes at the coffee shop there.

Saturday and Sunday, I lazed, frankly. Kerri went off to the Hall markets and came back with a new chook. Our existing three are getting on a bit, producing maybe one egg every other day.

Queen's Birthday holiday yesterday. In the morning Kerri and I went to the new National Portrait Gallery. It's only been open six months, but you know how it is - we locals can go see it any time we want so it's always next week. I used to pick up the engineers for their flights from the site office, at least once a week, so I got to see the thing grow from the ground up.

It's a great location for a stunning collection after the rather cramped quarters of Old Parliament House. Say what you like about art, but if you are doing portraiture, you need a fairly high skill level. Some of the paintings are just fantastic. The Nick Cave and Deborah Mailman paintings are probably my favorites.

Artoven for lunch and coffee after. We looked into Paperchain Bookshop, but only Kerri bought anything - from the bargain racks outside.

In the arvo we went over the border for afternoon tea with Kerri's sister's husband. Robyn is no longer with us, but we keep in contact with T and EB. He's retired but doing some consulting work, and EB is doing a vet course. Between them they produced a coffee walnut cake with toffee topping that was incredibly rich and yummy.

Today the job foreman came to look at progress. He teed up the waterproofer, but nobody showed. Lazy day otherwise. With the post came a copy of Ken's book, as produced by yours truly. A bit wonky, but nothing I can't fix. Surprised to see it had an ISBN assigned.

Tomorrow I get the cast off about lunchtime and I'm planning on driving a shift as soon as it's off.
