Sep. 20th, 2008 09:30 pmFirst things first. Happy birthday to Bookczuk on what turns out to be an important day for her and the other main party in the event on this day some years back.
And Bumma (the other party), it's so good to see your smile. You've got a lot of friends cheering you on.
Lillie is home with her parents.
And Miriam isn't putting on condition like she should.
I'm hoping to see all of the above soon.
This time in two weeks, I'll be off on my trip. In fact I'll be snoozing in some Auckland hotel. I've got my tickets and I'm booking accommodation. Perhaps the most interesting will be a capsule hotel at Gatwick, which looks barely big enough to squeeze me and my luggage into.
Misty the kitten remains heartstoppingly beautiful. She is our little snow panther. Her fur is most amazing soft, and when she looks up at you with those huge kitten eyes, awwwww. However, she runs around at night waking people up, one way or another, and she has attacked two of Kerri's Japanese silk wall decorations, renting one and dropping the other when the picture wire couldn't cope with the stress. It crashed down, frightening the sleeping dog, breaking off an electrical plug underneath, and causing some rude words to escape my lips.
I've had a few seedy moments, with headaches and general fatigue. People ringing up in the middle of the day when I'm supposed to be sleeping. I may have caught some virus.
I'm supposed to be clearing out the downstairs room before I go, but I haven't made as much progress as I'd like.
The highlight of the week, I guess, was the arrival of my Levenger shirt pocket briefcase and cards to go in it. This will serve as the "collection device" for my participation in the "Getting Things Done" system. This is a handy and beautiful bit of kit. I've coupled it with a Fisher Space Pen - the brilliant "bullet" model, and it's just perfect. I love good design, and this ticks all the boxes.
That's the collection device, and I've got other Levenger products to handle the higher-level paperwork. It's a system, you see, and I'm hoping that once I get into the habit, I'll be more organised, productive and less stressed. It's all about being in control of my life.
What else. It's getting towards summer already. Today was hot and windy - clothes on the line dried in half an hour or so, in stark contrast to recent days of rain and cold. One particular evening was totally miserable, with delays at the airport caused by wind gusts, and a dusty rain that covered everything with fine red dirt. The car wash at the Braddon servo had a continuous line of taxis in the early morning.
The wattle has been out for a while, the wind stripped most of the plum blossoms from the trees, we're starting to see green shoots appear on the trees, and the days are getting longer at an extraordinary rate. Soon we'll be into daylight saving.
