A quiet Monday night shift. Sitting here on Manuka rank on a packed rank. Normally there's a flow of cabs, and private cars come in and steal spaces on the rank, which is a pain. One car comes and parkson the unattended rank, and then others see it and follow suit, and when the next cab comes in, there's four or five cars taking up the rank.
But not tonight. It's slow. Cabs that are normally ferrying people around are sitting idle. I haven't had an airport job at all, and normally I'm backwards and forwards all afternoon.
In fact, I had leisure to get my nightly coffee and rock cake about four in the afternoon. Usually it's well after six when I can spare a moment.
