...DD is landing in Auckland. She's the other member of the family who takes a great deal of pleasure in flying, and I made sure she got window seats all the way, so she's probably had a wonderful time. Plus three hours transit in Tullamarine where she probably wedged her nose up against the glass and watched the jumbos take off.

That's one of the best things about Melbourne. Get off your domestic flight and stroll next door to the international terminal. Not like Sydney where it's a shuttle bus ride across to the other side of the main runway, and the buses only seem to go every half hours starting with the moment before you get to the waiting room. And no view of the tarmac while you're waiting.

She'll be met by her greataunt and uncle, who have bought a car for her - they did the buying, we did the paying - while she's in NZ. An elderly Magna, much like one of our cars, but she'll have cheap transport to and from the school where she'll be teaching.

About half her luggage was full of books - that's my daughter! - and I helped her rearrange her bags so that she had a chance of complying with the baggage limits. We all had a cuppa and then she and I waited in the Qantas Club for her flight to be called. Gave her a hug and later watched her 737 lift off over Mount Majura.

***SIGH*** She'll love it, I know. A very enthusiastic teacher. We three - Kerri, DS and I - will visit her towards the end of next month, and stop off in Melbourne on the way home for the Oz BookCrossing Convention. It'll be in school hols, so we will have a bit of a lazy look around the Te Puke part of the world.

One upside is that while she's gone, we'll have a car each, and I won't have to wait for one of my children to get home from uni/college before I can drive to work.
