The video recorder carked it a while back. Getting steadily sicker and sicker and became absolutely unusable last week (of course when I was removing it I found one of the cables had come out, but that's neither here nor there). When i say that our toddler daughter, now into her twenties, used to stickteaspoons into the slot, doubtless to the amusement of the overpaid repairman, you'll get an idea of how old it is.

And the DVD player's remote control gave up working a while back too. No, it's not the batteries, it's something more tragic.

So when Aldi put out a special DVD/video recorder on sale today for about a hundred or so less than any competition, I raced out to Queanbeyan to snaffle one up. I had visions of having to fight over the last one with a horde of screaming people, but no, they had enough for all, at least trhey did at a few minutes past nine this morning. Seeing a couple of people come out clutching the boxes while I was still parking didn't help my state of mind.

You look a dam fool when you run up, unshaven, sweating, wild-eyed and there's a stack of a couple of dozen.

Still, it was a bargain. Now I can transfer all those videos I never watch onto DVDs that I'll never watch.

I also had time to go around the op shops. Got a Tim Tam mug, which i'll donate to some worthy person next time I'm overseas. Perhaps I'm a bit nutty on the subject of Tim Tams, but I reckon there's a lot worse things to be nutty about, and if it was semi-naked Italian soccer players, people'd wonder.

And a couple of books (of course).

Thank you for listening and understanding.

CoffeeBron, bless her heart, organised a meeting today to make up for missing her and the others last Monday.

We met up at In2Coffee, which is the coffee shop run by the awesome Valerie Parv, who has established an OBCZ, which has already been stocked up by Unbalanced in one of his famous "bag of books" raids.

We had seven BookCrossers in total, which is better than the official meeting in Starbucks.

Always a great pleasure to spend time with BookCrossers. Calissa might not yet match Valerie's 25 million readers, but she is working on it, being selected as the public face of University of Canberra's literature for the second year running.

Bron graciously consented to help me out with ABC Radio tomorrow. I know my limitations as a sparkling radio personality, and I'm hoping that Bron can charm the presenter and I can sit back and nod and smile occasionally.
