I went through my book stock last night, consolidating gaps where books have been sold, and winding up with a spare metre of empty shelf space.

Woo-hoo!

Now I can get some more books off their temporary homes on the floor. I'm busy entering them into my database and uploading them to Amazon etc. I've given up scanning in the covers for any but the most expensive books, so I can work a little quicker than previously.

There's also a lot of space in my main storage in the shed, where many crates are only half full. This takes a bit more work to consolidate, as I've got to print out a list of the books and arrange them so that they are in order within their crates, with a sticker on the side showing first and last numbers.

I've been putting that off, because it's boring, fiddly work.

Listening with dismay to the news from New Orleans and nearby areas. I guess the big difference between Katrina and the tsunami last year is that the death toll is so much smaller this time. The decision to evacuate New Orleans before the hurricano struck must have been difficult, but in hindsight was absolutely correct. If more people had stayed, more would have died during the storm, and the situation now would be far far worse than it is now.

Even so, it sounds horrendous.

I'm listening live at the moment to BBC in Shrewsbury.

The presenter, Jim Hawkins, mentioned that he'd joined up, so I browsed through the Shropshire entries and found "Jim on the Radio"

Sent him a couple of emails which he read on air.

Heather kicked off the show, sounding very American and enthusiastic, and then Steve (Netstation) took over.

Having a great time - hope someone's recording this!

That was just wonderful! A CD of the show is being made up and will be sent around. The BCUK group just went wild during the show - I think they all sent the presenter an email!

I wung him while he was registering his first book - my own fair dinkum money for that, but when he noticed and asked BookCrossing to wing LeneyCakes, who he said did all the legwork, I just gave her a month's worth of wings and told her it was a big thank you from the BookCrossing Support Team.

Steve was fantastic - you could hear the smile and love in his voice as he spoke. LaneyCakes had had a book caught, and the finder rang up in the middle of the show. A few of the usual suspects rang in and others sent emails - minxie got a guernsey, as did Yoko.

And many others. ***SIGH*** It was just wonderful. Might take me a while to come back to earht.
