The Ambassador Wiki
Jun. 21st, 2005 10:44 pmA bit more CD burning and I was able to get a bootable Linux disk. First job was to blow away the three Windows partitions.
Next job was to load up Solaris. Hmmm. Stopped at the same place as last time. "Unable to find boot.bin". A quick check shows that this seems to be a common problem, and once you load boot.bin, it goes looking for the next file in the install... The solution seems to be to buy a set of media from Sun.
Well, this all sounds like a bit of hassle to me, so i went back to the newsagent and bought a Linux magazine with a Mandrake distro on the cover and a whole heap of "hold your hand" tutorials inside. The DVD includes Apache, MSQL and PHP, which is what I need to get MediaWiki running. Whether I have or can gain the skills I shall see.
At the moment Mandrake is installing itself on my spare machine, and if nothing else, I've got some new software to play with.
