The LiveJournal outage caused the world to rock on its foundations. Must learn how to download old entries in case it all goes under.

Another Bookcrossing episode at the Botanic Gardens, this one a follow-up to our Meetup a week or so back. I've written it up in journal entries in a book I received in a controlled release. It involves gardens, picnic and jazz. And a lot of fun.

Kerri's off to Washington for a week on Friday. She's got to give some sort of presentation and may take a laptop. I did some research on power supplies, and it looks like all that is needed are plug adaptors, as the laptop power supply should be universal and able to accept any voltage and frequency. This is good for my own upcoming trip, as I'll have to run my machine on British and American power. My camera battery recharger won't do the same trick, so I guess I'll have to buy batteries as I go. Presumably this will cost me less than buying local rechargers, but I might investigate the options, as I'll be taking lots of photographs along the way.  I might also invest in a bigger flashcard, as 64Meg isn't enough for a full day of photography. Keep my current ones as spares.

Starting to research books to release on the Monopoly streets. Getting some good ideas from Bookcrossers and reference books. For Fort Worth I'll probably just draw a hundred books from my stock, put them in a box and seamail them over with a bunch of Tim-Tams. Heavy on the Australian titles. I have a copy of "Lonesome Dove" for the McMurtry bookshop trip, but I can't think of any specifically themed releases.

We've had some mild days after the heat wave. A welcome relief, but nowhere near the rain we need.

Stockmarket surging ahead. I do a printout and show it to Kerri. "A thousand bucks overnight!" she gloats, rubbing her hands in glee. Well, yes, but there's taxes and university fees to pay.

Huge sulphur-crested cockatoo comes to land atop my bird feeder. It looks at me speculatively and then starts the process of destruction, attempting to lift the feeder off its hook and throw it on the ground. Reluctantly I shoo it off and a white-cheeked rosella takes its place, well-behaved and beautiful.
