Too Long

Spending too long on a simple screen to add records. Really, all it does is add records, and I could do that in SQL, but the reason I'm doing it in VB is so that I can translate latitude and longitude into a set of X, Y co-ords covering the UK and the adjacent Continent at a kilometre resolution. And a little wrinkle so that I can stick in areas as well as point locations.

This will be a major feature in the game, so it needs a bit of thought to get it right. That's my excuse.

Finished off Do Not Pass Go today. A screamingly funny bit about buying jellied eels on Whitechapel Road. This bloke has a wonderful sense of humour and expresses himself well. Probably a few jokes I missed. Has a nice technique: mentions a fact and then refers to it a page or so later in connection with something else to create a funny image. Leo Marks used the same trick, except he could do it on a paragraph or sentence basis without it seeming too forced and he could spin a few of them together.

The difference is that Leo was more deep and emotional. Tim Moore is OK, but he's got more to say about town planning than the human condition.

Looks like the big buy of Leighton a while back has paid off. Big infrastructure announcement today and the stocks have riz 50c. In fact the whole market has gone up. Amcor is only two cents below my rather disastrous trade of a week or so ago. Right trade, wrong timing. I would have made an extra couple of thousand if I'd waited a week. Oh well, live and learn. Waiting on some documents from Dolby so I can get out of Lake.

Thinking very hard about how to start off the OZ book. Want to have something inspiring to begin with, but if I use the Aboriginal Tent Embassy I have to give 'em a kick in the guts before I can build on it. Don't want to sound too mean-spirited. Then again, if I'm working on history as well as location, then Aboriginal Australia is the place to start.

Have to think about this.
