Vestments

Pete's New Vest
Pete's New Vest,

I do like a good vest. On days where it's not too cold, I like to put on a long sleeved shirt and a vest on top of that. I've got a couple of them, bought of ebay, but they have "Microsoft" branding, and I'm drawing away from programming and computers and stuff.

My current clothing fad is Columbia, because they make good comfortable hard-wearing gear, so I guess I've just changed one brand for another.

I know, I'll never be stylish, but I'm old enough that I aim for comfort and convenience.

Also note my England: Pride Passion Belief coffee mug, a giftie in my goodie bag from the UnCon, of which I am inordinately fond.

Isn't it nice to reach the point in life

where comfort can win out over style without making you feel you need to apologize ?

I'd prefer style and comfort, but comfort wins out for me.

In your case, Bill, you've got inbuilt style and elegance!

Me, I just muddle along and hope a cheerful smile will make up for the ugg boots.

I was puzzled for a second there, wondering why you'd put undergarments over the top of a long sleeved shirt. It seems Australian English and British English aren't quite as similar as I thought. We'd call that a gilet. Personally, if I'm cold enough to wear a gilet, I need sleeves. I do like my microfleeces.

I love vests too! They are perfect when I want my torso warm, but don't want encumbrance on my arms. I have an ancient down one that I think finally gave up the ghost last winter.

This is why I wear a vest very similar to Skyring's new one for softball winter training. Stops me getting too frozen out in the field, leaves my arms free for throwing, catching and batting.
I also have an ace windproof down-stuffed one my sister gave me for Christmas, which I find is pretty good for winter in London - not as bulky as a big overcoat.

My goodness - if you took the glasses off, you could pass for Peter Cundall from Gardening Australia!

Right. That's your lot!

But only for this week?

Heh!

Pete's a nice chap, but I don't think I look quite that old just yet.

True enough - but he's in damned good nick for his age, and a pretty nice guy as well. Maybe the new best you reminds me of him 40 years ago!
