After reading about Harry Potter 3, I was prepared to be a little disappointed, but instead I was as entranced as ever. My daughter came up with the idea of hitting the first session on Sunday to avoid the crowds, and we were there at 0930 beating down the door. Only a couple of dozen ahead of us, and we secured excellent seats. Half an hour wait, but we went off for refreshments in shifts, swinging up the armrests of the vacated seats to show they were taken. Capuccino and a cookie each for Kerri and I. and for the teenagers I scraped together all my gold plus a couple of 50c pieces and sent them off - they brought back enormous muffins and Cokes.

And then the movie started. No trailers, went straight into it. Can't say as I liked the dementors with their bulbous heads, but they weren't bad. The thrilling photography over and through Hogwarts was the part of the film that I liked best. The setting was changed a little - I don't recall it being set on such a steep hillside.

The scenes left out weren't much loss. Of course I would have liked more at the threat of straining my bladder, but the story was told and even the time-travel was handled well. Seems to me that some parts were filmed but cut - there was a reference to Lupin's potion which seemed to just hang there.

The kids are growing up - losing their cuteness and becoming more gangly. Fair enough.

Looking forward to the next book. And the next film. HP4 is the weakest of the books, in my estimation, but I can see how the film will compress the action and remove a bit of the flab.

Must see the earlier movies again, if for no other reason than to contrast them with this one.

Off to dinner at Kerri's sister's place tonight. Two hours to go. It will be a pleasure to see Jeff again. Poor chap, he's lonely without his wife.

It was a brilliant Saturday afternoon when last they came out here, pretty much the last warm day of this side of the year. Today is grey and gloomy, chill and windy outside, though a couple of galahs checked out the new superior seed mix in the feeder. Rosie walked past and scared them off, otherwise I would have had a go at taking a picture or two.

Queens Birthday holiday tomorrow. A day off for Kerri - she sorely needs it as this new job is taxing her, what with the long hours and the increased management load.
