Checking in

I've got a decent internet connection at last, and I'm listening to Jenny Kendall-Tobias from Osaka in Japan, where I'm staying with Cari from New York, who is an English language teacher here. She has been an absolute angel, giving up her day off to take me down on the bullet train to Hiroshima. We looked at all the sights, starting with the Peace Dome where I posed my BBC Radio Guernsey journal (photographhere. It was a lovely day, and Cari took a photo of me with (cherry blossoms on my head.http://static.flickr.com/35/123137544_d055e4bebf_b.jpg) Now we're back in Osaka. I've brought Cari a couple of packets of Tim-Tams from Australia, and I've bought some weird Japanese sweets. I'm off to Hong Kong tomorrow and Paris the day after.

My brother used to teach English in Osaka! He said that there were precious few Americans doing that when he was there. Most of his fellow teachers were from Canada or Down Under.

Now that you've seen the Japanese cherry blossoms, try to picture those blossoms on all the trees surrounding the Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin, and you'll have an idea of how things look here right now...

There are more Americans here now than there used to be when I worked here in 2001-2002, exchange rate is better for us(though not this week) and worse for the Aussies.

Could you bring me a sheet of Japanese newspaper, for craft purposes? I'll pay you in chocolate truffles?

As many sheets as you want, Yoko! Air Skyring will deliver!
