I use some MS Office program for quick and dirty photo manipulation. Cropping, resizing and stuff. This laptop doesn't have it, and the replacement I found elsewhere really sucks.

I want a program that is a free download, allows me to crop by dragging handles instead of entering numbers, lets me resize to standard sizes by clicking abox, has an automatic colour correct and doesn't bury this all in a mountain of options and menu choices. Oh yeah, and I want to be able to go left and right through a directory instead of having to open each image individually.

Any ideas?

Have you tried Irfanview. I don't know that it does all of that, but it is very, very easy to use. Be sure to get all the plug-ins.

I have only used it in a ilmited matter so I don't remember if it has those features... But have you checked out Irfanview? It's pretty good for a free program.

Oops. I should have checked what Wren said before I reiterated it almost word-for-word. :)

Hm, not sure what a bottler is, but I'll assume it's ok. ;-)

I've been using it for years-in fact, I dumped all but 1 of my photoediting programs. Anyone need an slightly used version of Hijaak?

BTW, thank you for the lead to the pictures. I ended up not using them, but they led me to one of Johnnie and I together that Shen had posted. And, I've added the others to my scrapbook.

lol I skimmed your post and then sat here trying to figure out where I got that icon before I realized that wasn't exactly what I posted. ;-)

GIMP is the GNU take-off of Photoshop. I haven't used it, but the screenshots have always intrigued me.

It is free and incredibly easy to use. http://picasa.google.com/

Photoshop I've got. It's a bit too complex for the simple stuff I need to do quickly, though there's no doubting its power.

'not entirely gruntled' - now where have I read that before? :)
I use and love photoshop elements, cheap, but not free from ebay. But you do enter numbers to resize - Appleworks had draggy handles.
