A hasty word I can't remember

skyringI made someone upset yesterday. I didn't mean to, but she took something I said (or wrote, rather) at face value when I meant the exact opposite, and she snapped back an annoyed response. I tried to explain, but I don't think that helped.
I hate upsetting people unintentionally. Blame my sense of humour half the time. The joke is that I say something atrocious and it's clear that I mean the exact opposite, because I wouldn't have said it if I meant it, but getting the person to think, just for a moment, that I might have meant what I said, well, that's funny. To me, anyway. And to those who know me well. My daughter's very good at this. I'll say something that's so subtle even Kerri doesn't get it, but DD will chuckle. Must have passed on that particular gene. My son doesn't have it - he can come out with some amazingly funny things, but not things I could have thought of.
We all have minds that run along different tracks, and it's the differences that make life interesting. But every now and then...
Oh well. I guess I can't take it back. I'll be extra nice to this person from now on. She's an extra nice person, so that shouldn't be hard!
