Installed Skype on Kerri's laptop yesterday. Now we can talk to one another at long distance for free, even if one or the other or both is on the far side of the world.
Not being able to use Skype is another good reason for me to upgrade my laptop. I think the Beloved is going to talk to our techo's about it on Friday.
When I first downloaded Skype onto the family computers. I was in one room with three computers. We had a (echo filled) conference call to show my parents how to use the program. It was great fun, and Zanla and I are often tempted to use it as an intercom between floors!
A cheapskate thing to do! It won't work all the time, because I'll be travelling, or not in a broadband wifi or hotel network situation, and she'll be working or not have the computer going, so the windows of opportunity will be small, but she'll be able to see if I'm online and vice versa.
My new laptop, to be delivered today or maybe tomorrow, has Bluetooth, and I've got a little Bluetooth headset, so that could be one way of connecting on the road. I'll also be able to talk, even if I'm on dialup and my phone line is permanently engaged.
However, I also made sure that my cellphone works overseas and is small and fliptop and easy to use, so either of us can take it with them. Kerri's already taken it with her once and it works fine. These things tend to be expensive, but.
The big thing with skype is that you can see who's online before you ring them.
